These days, sex toys have become more and more common in people's bedrooms, and even though this is becoming more and more prevalent, whether you're a novice or an experienced person, you can make sex toy mistakes. The good news is that we're going to go through the list of common mistakes and provide you with the right solutions.
1. Using the wrong lube
While lubricants are great for enhancing our pleasurable experience, using the wrong lubricant can lead to damage to the surface of our toys and increase the risk of inflammation and disease infection.
- water-based lubricant: is a type of lubricant that has a very wide range of applications. It is suitable for most sexual activities and is very easy to clean, even if it gets on the sheets. However, water-based lubricants do not provide as long-lasting an experience as other types of lubricants, require repeated reapplication, and are not suitable for water sex due to their nature of being washed away by water.
- Silicone-based lube: while it can provide a longer lasting, smoother experience, it is important to note that if your toy is made of silicone, then never allow your lubricant to come into contact with the silicone material, as this can cause the two to react, resulting in damage to the toy.
- Oil-based lubricants: While oil-based lubricants can also provide a very long-lasting, smooth experience, and some can even be used as massage oils. However, oil-based lubricants should not be used internally, as they can cause vaginal sensitization, increase the risk of disease and inflammatory infections and are not easy to clean, and are not recommended for use with sex toys.
So if you want to choose a lubricant, water-based lubricants are definitely the safest and most suitable type of lubricant.
2. Failure to clean properly and in a timely manner
I believe this is the mistake most people will make, not cleaning your toys in time. After use, we often choose to roll over and go to sleep because we are tired and don't want to get out of bed to clean our toys. This can lead to bacterial growth on the surface of the toy, damaging the material of the toy, leading to damage or an increased risk of yeast or inflammatory infections.
Both before and after using sex toys, they need to be cleaned with water and a mild soap. Then dry them with a clean towel and store them after making sure they are thoroughly dry. Choose a ventilated, dry environment out of direct sunlight and use a special storage bag to avoid other dust, sharp objects that can damage the surface of the toy and cross-contamination with other toys.
3. Choosing the wrong material for sex toys
Choosing safe materials will not only make cleaning easier, but also ensure our health and safety. Sex toy materials can be divided into porous and non-porous materials. Porous materials, even if carefully cleaned, may still leave liquid residue, leading to bacterial growth, thus jeopardizing our health. The non-porous materials are very healthy and make cleaning easy, such as 100% silicone, stainless steel and glass materials made of sex toys, if your toy does not have a motor, you can also use the boiling method, for deep cleaning.
4. Putting toys in the wrong orifice
I'm sure no one wants to go to the hospital to have a toy removed because they lost it in their anus. So please don't use toys in the anus that don't have a flared base or a drawstring, this could very well lead to a dangerous situation as the anus doesn't have an end like the vagina. Don't put anal toys in the vagina either, which can increase the risk of bacterial and inflammatory infections. If you must try it, use a new condom over the toy each time you use it.
5. Always use toys alone
If you have a partner, try to speak to your partner about the idea that you want to try sex toys in the bedroom, it won't cost you anything. If your partner is interested, this will bring you new excitement and experiences and discover more new surprises. And there are plenty of sex toys on the market that are perfect for couples to play with together. If your partner wants to try it together, you can go shopping for toys together to increase your partner's involvement.
6. You only give your toys one chance
Not all toys are able to give you a very pleasurable experience on the first try. It often takes a few tries to find your favorite feeling, which is something we need to practice, and I'm sure many of us have felt this way. While not everyone likes the feeling a toy gives, dismissing the toy just because of one try is a very one-sided assessment. If you've tried a product a few times and tried it many ways and it still doesn't work, try a new toy!
